The Armonk Players will hold auditions for their Fall, 2010 Production of It Happened One Christmas Eve  on September 13 and 14  from 7:30pm – 9:30pm with callbacks by appointment on September 15  at Whippoorwill Hall (adjacent the North Castle Public Library at 19 Whippoorwill Road East, Armonk — use Kent Place entrance). If someone wants to audition but can’t make those dates, they should call Anne Nisenholtz at 914-450-9734. The performance is based upon the book by Bob Fitzsimmons, original music and lyrics by Steven Silverstein and Barbara Campbell. Directored by Jeff Stone and Music Director, Janice Aubrey.

  • Performances will be December 3,4,5,9,10,11,12 (Thursday at 7:30 pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, Sundays at 4 pm).

  • You may be asked to stay and read from the script.
  • Rehearsals will be Tuesday, Thursday,and Sunday evenings.

  • This is the heart-warming story, about an infant left on the doorstep of an old brownstone rooming-house in Brooklyn on Christmas Eve, and the magic she brings to the lives of those who find her. The show features a book by Bob Fitzsimmons, original music and lyrics by Steven Silverstein and Barbara Campbell, and musical arrangements by Steven Silverstein.

    The play tells Dolly’s story in form of flashbacks. The play begins on Christmas Eve 1989, goes back to 1919, and slowly winds its way forward to the present. The show is filled with Christmas carols, popular seasonal songs, and some original songs.

    (First scene of the play takes place in 1919 and moves forward to: 1929, 1938, 1941, 1944, 1952 and 1989)

    Cast of Characters:

    Young Dolly – Age 10, sweet intelligent and inquisitive. Alto
    Dolly – A woman raised by residents of a New York boarding house. (Adult Dolly plays most of the play ages 19 to 37, except first and final scene at approx. 70). Soprano

    (Remaining characters must play age range for about a 30 year time frame, except Bridget who plays a 50 year time frame – same as Dolly)

    Bridget – Spunky, no nonsense Irish housekeeper. Belt/Soprano
    Charlotte – Bostonian, prim and proper and on occasion, tough as nails. Soprano
    Millie – Young, brassy Broadway star to be. Alto
    Elizabeth – British gentle woman, kind and proper. Soprano
    Sigmund – Romanian, good hearted, sure of himself, heavy accent (good sense of comedy required) Lyric Baritone
    Serge – Romanian, younger brother to Serge and follows his lead, gentler nature, heavy accent (good sense of comedy). Tenor
    Buddy – Young soldier, love interest for Dolly. Tenor
    Santa/Inspector – Character actor. Baritone
