The Community Education Program of Putnam/Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center proudly announces the first annual Putnam and Northern Westchester County Student Poster Design Contest. The theme for the first year’s competition is “What Being A Good Friend Looks Like”.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the first place ($200.00), second place ($150.00) and third place ($50.00) winners. Students in grades 6-8 who are living or attending school in Putnam and Northern Westchester Counties, New York are eligible, including students who are home-schooled. Artwork must be the original work of the student and must be 12 inch by 18 inches including any border. Submitted artwork should be on heavy oaktag/poster board. Materials used may include, but are not limited to: paint; pencil; crayon; pen and ink; markers; original computer-generated design, and photos.  No 3-D posters, please.

 The poster contest is sponsored by: Putnam/Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center and the Elizabeth G. Butler Angel Foundation.

 The Putnam/Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center is a non-profit organization that provides services to women, men, and children who are healing from domestic and sexual violence. The center’s mission is to provide advocacy, education, and services to the community in order to create a safe, supportive environment that eliminates violence against women, men, and promotes gender equality.

The Elizabeth G. Butler Angel Foundation’s mission is to help all young adults understand and implement the concepts of open communication, self-discipline, and self-respect in relationships.

Each poster must be accompanied by a signed registration/release form which can be downloaded from the Putnam/Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center website (http://www.pnwwrc.org) under “2010 Poster Contest” section. The back of each poster must include the student’s name, grade, home address, phone number and email address, along with the name and address of the school. All posters will become the property of the Putnam/Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center, and may be used for future promotional activities.  No materials will be returned.

Entries must be postmarked by February 12, 2010. Winners will be contacted by phone by March 1, 2010. Winners will be announced to the public at a ceremony on April 1st, 2010 at the Mahopac Public Library, hosted by the Putnam/Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center and the Elizabeth G. Butler Angel Foundation.
