OSCAR NOMINEES MOONLIGHT AND MANCHESTER BY THE SEA
FEATURED AT THE EMELIN THEATRE; FEBRUARY 10 – 19

In advance of the 89th Academy Awards Ceremony on Sunday, February 26, The Emelin Theatre for the Performing Arts in Mamaroneck will screen two multi-award Oscar nominees, Moonlight and Manchester by the Sea. The theater will screen each film four times: Moonlight on Friday, February 10 @ 8PM, Saturday, February 11 @ 5PM & 8PM, and Sunday, February 12 @ 3PM; Manchester By The Sea on Thursday, February 16 @ 7:30M, Saturday, February 18 @ 4:30PM & 8PM, and Sunday, February 19 @ 3PM. Tickets are $12.00.

The Emelin wants to provide the community with an opportunity to see these two extraordinary films, for the first time, or to experience them all over again. “Given the recent closures of neighboring Larchmont and Mamaroneck movie houses, the area deserves a convenient, comfortable, quality environment in which to enjoy great films like these Oscar contenders,” said Mark D. Ettenger, Emelin Board President.

The Emelin has made a substantial commitment to film, having recently completed a $150,000 systems upgrade, including a new state-of-the-art digital cinema projector and Surround Sound. The theater also offers easy access to parking, stadium seating, and serves beer, wine, soft drinks and snacks. The Emelin Film Club, voted Best of Westchester 2015, has been showcasing the best in new independent and foreign films for over a decade. In fact, the winter session of the Emelin Film Club just opened with a 2017 Oscar nominee for Best Documentary Feature.

“The screening of Moonlight and Manchester By The Sea signals our dedication to expanding our film programming,” Mr. Ettenger went on to explain. “In January, we hosted screenings of two other films relevant to the community: Larchmont, a true-to-life comedy by two young local filmmakers, depicts suburban life and its challenges; and Fanny’s Journey, a family movie that is part of French Movie Nights at the Emelin, tells an amazing story of brave and cunning children escaping German occupied France.”

Moonlight, nominated for eight Academy Awards including Best Film, Best Directing, and Best Adapted Screenplay, is a timeless story of human self-discovery and connection that chronicles the life of a young black man from childhood to adulthood as he struggles to find his place in the world. Manchester By The Sea, nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Film, Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay, is a deeply poignant, unexpectedly funny exploration of the power of familial love, community, sacrifice and hope as a solitary Boston janitor, played by Casey Affleck, is forced to deal with a past that separated him from his wife and the community where he was born and raised.
